Heart of Gratitude: Be the Source of a Smile... 80hat

A blind boy sat on the steps of a building with a hat by his feet. He held up a sign which said: "I am blind, please help." There were only a few coins in the hat.
A man was walking by. He took a few coins from his pocket and dropped them into the hat. He then took the sign, turned it around, and wrote some words. He put the sign back so that everyone who walked by would see the new words.

Soon the hat began to fill up. A lot more people were giving money to the blind boy. That afternoon the man who had changed the sign came to see how things were.
The boy recognized his footsteps and asked, "Were you the one who changed my sign this morning? What did you write?"
The man said, "I only wrote the truth. I said what you said but in a different way."
I wrote: "Today is a beautiful day but I cannot see it."

Both signs told people that the boy was blind. But the first sign simply said the boy was blind. The second sign told people that they were so lucky that they were not blind. Should we be surprised that the second sign was more effective?
Moral of the Story: Be thankful for what you have.. Be creative. Be innovative. Think differently and positively.

When life gives you a 100 reasons to cry, show life that you have 1000 reasons to smile Face your past without regret. Handle your present with confidence. Prepare for the future without fear. Keep the faith and drop the fear.

The most beautiful thing is to see a person smiling…
And even more beautiful is, knowing that you are the reason behind it!!!

I HEART U Hat/Headband 80hat

New Crochet Pattern
It feels like I have been working on this pattern forever only because it has been sitting around for so long. I made several prototypes to see what made the heart stitch look best, all the while - other things of higher priority kept popping up in between.
I am very happy with how this turned out and looking forward to starting on something new.......what to do next? I'm thinking hand warmers........

I thought this heart stitch looked so great as just a headband too so I included the instructions for that in the pattern as well.

I HEART U Hat/Headband Pattern comes in all sizes ( :

A modern day parable - keep the faith and drop the fear

It was the last line of this modern day parable … “The most beautiful thing is to see a person smiling, and even more beautiful, is knowing that you are the reason behind it” … that got my attention. We were in Tampa visiting Margaret’s brother Ray who is dying of cancer. His wife was shared a portion of a 3-page letter that their son had written to Ray. In the letter Ben shared the story of the day, when Ben was younger, that Ray had taken him to work. Ben noticed how everyone lit up when Ray walked in. Ray simply changed the atmosphere of the office. Everyone was glad to see him and was happy to have him in the office. Ray simply caused everybody to smile. What a great testimony … what a great memory to hold on to … what a great example for a son to follow. Wouldn’t it be tremendous if that could be said of all of us.

And, now today’s modern parable:

I said what you said but in a different way." I wrote: "Today is a beautiful day but I cannot see it."

Both signs told people that the boy was blind. But the first sign simply said the boy was blind. The second sign told people that they were so lucky that they were not blind. Should we be surprised that the second sign was more effective?

Moral of the Story: Be thankful for what you have. Be creative. Be innovative. Think differently and positively. The Hat With a Heart 80hat

Bella_Side_Cranberry_Winter 10-11 18
Thanks to word-of-mouth demand for its top-notch crochet beanies, Uganda-based Krochet Kids has grown from 10 full-time employees to over 70. The cleverness is in the trade. Customers and employees both get something they don't see very often. in Uganda, it's stable employment. In the U.S., it's craftsmanship.
Call it charity for the web generation: design-conscious and entrepreneurial, a way to make donations as economically attractive as they are heart-warming. If the bottom line is caring about the cause, this basic, earnest approach ("buy a hat, change a life") is highly effective.

The organization, which was founded by four friends from Spokane, WA, has just released a line of beanies for the fall season.

Makes My Heart Smile 80hat

I often ask myself, will this make me happy? If I wear this, do this, move here, say this, go there, eat this, not eat that, exercise here, sleep more, sleep less, take a risk, stay comfortable,  and I am not sure what the answer is. So I am now in a search of what makes people feel happy, or in other words what makes their little hearts just smile on the inside.
I know there are the general activities in everday life which at least provoke a smile out of my beating heart, but there should be more, or maybe something different? I wouldn't say I am unhappy, or depressed in any sense, but I like challenging myself, and I am sure there is a lot out there I haven't tried or haven't experienced which will make me feel glee. Although that tv show, sure does make my heart smile, or sing rather! Not the point I am getting at, I will now make a concerted effort to figure out what makes your heart smile, and what makes mine smile as well.

It's not Halloween without Trick O Treat, a Bonfire, Marshmallows, Roasted weiners, Candy apples, and
TONS of candy, aka sugar in a wrapper and of course the cute costumes. I love it! It is one of my favorite times of the year. I can't wait to see all the kids costumes and the pictures and it is so much fun and then I have to get creative and find ways to hide the candy when it is all over, but the memories are unforgettable! Here are a few pics of the costumes of my little goblins:

He makes my heart smile...80hat

Thanks for visiting!  Yes, I am a photographer, but I am so much more!  As you can see from my unfinished list in the previous post.

My love for photography began long ago, long, long ago. (Star Trek music playing in the background)  My best friends and I would take pictures everywhere...and of everything!  We had a camera everywhere we went, taking pictures of our food, cars, shoes and each other!  If you can imagine...I have pictures everywhere.  Seriously, everywhere, even the bathroom...hey,I like to keep the people I love close! Is that weird?  I enjoy capturing memories.  I just love that you can actually have a physical copy of a moment in time.  The real funny thing is that I feel all pictures have emotions tied to them.  Whenever you see that picture of you sitting on your Dad's lap, laughing hysterically, doesn't it make you crack up? That same picture may make your Dad smile and probably make his eyes a little wet because his little girl is not so little anymore.

YOU MAKE MY HEART SMILE 80hat

So Colin is 7 months and 2 days old, ALREADY! How time flies. Now I understand when people say time flies when you have a child. It's not that time just starts doing double speed because you have a child but you are just more alert about the time passing. Before Colin I just lived day by day not knowing time is even passing because there was no physical evidence that showed time passing. But when I see Colin from day to day I can see the value of a 24 hour period. Before I wanted to see where I would be in 10 years but all of that does not matter any more. I just want to savior every minute of every day. When I see Colin there is a feeling like non other and til today I didn't know how to explain that feeling. Friends would ask me how does it feel being a mom and I would just say great. But there is more to it... and my son literally makes my Heart Smile every time I see him. There is no greater feeling than having a child of your own. He makes me want to be a better person and I am grateful for everything he has helped me realized. I am still learning...

Happiness hat for a permanent smile

happiness hat from Lauren McCarthy on Vimeo.
They say that frowning uses less muscles than a smile, and frowning too much might just result in an undesired, sad look on your face permanently if done once too often. Enter the Happiness Hat that ought to change all that, leaving you with a perpetual smile without having to carve one out for you. How is this possible? No, it doesn’t use some sort of laughing gas or anything of the sort, but rely on a traditional Pavlovian-style approach by driving a metal spike into its wearer’s head should he or she make the mistake of frowning. This is made possible by an embedded bend sensor which is attached to the cheek and measures smile size, while a servo motor helps moves a metal spike into the head inversely proportional to the degree of smile. That ought to leave you with a perpetual smile, that’s for sure.
